In the Information Technology Department we help students develop their skills in using computers and other electronic devices that are used in the world around them.

Our aim is to develop students that are:

  • Confident in using Computers
  • Be able to use a wide vareity of software packages
  • Develop skills that are valued by employers and colleges
  • Be responsible with their use of ICT
  • Understand how to be safe Online

Students follow a varied programme of study in which they get to access industry standard software and experience new advances in technology this is to help them become able to use a wide range of skills and techniques that they are able to apply in different environments.

In Key Stage 3 students follows a computing based curriculum, preparing them for the onset of Computer science. Our programme of study includes:

  • History of Computing
  • E-Safety
  • Game Development
  • Programming
  • Animation & Image editing
  • Office Software
  • 3D Modelling & Printing
  • Web Page Design

During their time in Key Stage 4, year 10 students currently study towards the OCR Entry Level in Computing. In year 11 students will either study the WJEC GCSE ICT Short Course or OCR Computing syllabus. This follows on and builds on top of the skills that the students learn in Key Stage 3 and provides opportunities to further their knowledge in ICT and Computer Science.

Students are currently assessed for the GCSE using a mixture of coursework and a written exam. This is shown on the table below:
